Laboratory Animal Veterinarian
Description
The
successful applicant will work as a consultant to a U.S.
Government office tasked with ensuring institutional
compliance with relevant federal regulations, policies,
and guidelines for the proper care and use of animals in
research activities. In this role, the individual will
provide recommendations, guidance, and support (on an “as
needed” basis) for federally funded animal research
programs. The individual will also review compliance
assessments, assist site visits and facility inspections,
and evaluate euthanasia methods for consistency with AVMA
standards.
Requirements
The
applicant must have a veterinary medical degree from an
AVMA-accredited college and be ACLAM board-certified. The
individual must have a minimum of 5 years experience in
laboratory animal medicine, as well as experience in
biocontainment facilities and in the care of nonhuman
primates. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of
federal regulations, policies, and guidelines for the care
and use of animals in research activities and must have
served on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Competitive Qualifications
Special
consideration will be given to applicants with experience
as an Attending Veterinarian with direct responsibility
and oversight of animal research programs. Experience in
conducting site inspections and evaluating animal programs
for compliance with federal requirements is preferred.
Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a
Secret-level U.S. Government security clearance; an
existing Secret clearance is highly desirable.
