Export Compliance Specialist
Work Location
Downtown Washington, D.C. • USA (Relocation Assistance Not Available), on site at a Department of Homeland Security Headquarters location.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintain current awareness and mastery of federal regulatory requirements in the areas of U.S. exports and documentation, including Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control Regulations (OFAC), etc.
• Assist offices and project managers within the Under Secretary for Science & Technology with their export needs.
• Ensure Department export licenses are in accordance with ITAR/EAR or other applications for export approval are professionally prepared, accurate and properly coordinated within the organization and counsel.
• Perform regulatory analysis to help determine proper jurisdiction and appropriate classification of hardware, software and data. Identify emerging technologies important to the Department as they are presented for commodity jurisdiction adjudication within the USG Interagency.
• Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with export controls.
• Develop and carry out training initiatives on the full spectrum of export compliance issues.
Necessary Background
The successful candidate will have: a minimum of three years of export controls experience, capacity to receive expeditious screen to successfully obtain DHS Suitability, and demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed, high energy environment.
Education
BS/BA with exceptional academic performance.
Security Clearance
Secret

- Previous award of DHS Suitability.
- Masters Degree.
- USG interagency experience at the action officer level.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, particularly with recordkeeping.
- Evidence of self-motivation.
- Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills through awards and special recognition.
- Strong customer service and teamwork skills, quality oriented with ability to initiate changes.
- Accredited training in U.S. export regulations.
- Technical background.
